PUBLISHED: Honey on a Broomstick

I am honored to announce that my work has been published on DeseretNews.com!

This was my first trial at editorial, storytelling work in the form of a photo-essay (the fancy name for the combination of photos, video, and interviews). Not too bad for a first-timer, huh? ;)

When I found out about Mike Stevens and his Hand Blown Glass he was more than willing to let me do this project on him and his amazing work. Having never really seen glass blowing in person, it was crazy following him as he spinned his glass to magically turn it into a masterpiece.

If you are like me and have always wondered how glass blowing works, be sure to check out my 2-min video!

Best part of all??

In order for me to better understand the process and successfully do my story, Mike taught me how to glass blow, too! (And he insisted in taking photos of me and recording any bad words that might come out from my mouth if I either got too hot from standing by the glory hole or burned--too bad I am too much of a lady!) ;)
Yes, that's gorgeous me wearing the funky protective glasses and gloves...
IT'S HARDER THAN IT SEEMS!

"Just keep spinning! Just keep spinning!"

If you don't spin enough, your glass will look crooked like mine here =X

It gets SO HOT in there that I was sure I was burning some calories--highly recommend anyone trying it in the winter, especially! And how cute does my pregnant belly look, by the way?! (I guess I only gained weight afterwards...) xP~

In the end I made a beautiful red paperweight and also got to keep the vase he made in the video--especially for me! *u* (Little did I know he had this all planned out...I just needed photos and an interview! haha)

These wonderful experiences are what make me love what I do and share it with everyone!
