Long story short: they had a limited supply of paint, so they decided to use leftovers from ships that would sail in. The results are depicted in detail below, in an artist's--not a tourist's--point of view.

The colors, clarity, and composition are astonishing. I adore the brilliant colors -- you never see scenes like this in the States. You should make these into commercial screensavers.
